AYURVEDIC CONSULTATIONS

Ayurveda, derived from the Sanskrit words ayur (life) and veda (knowledge), is an ancient Indian system of preventative healing practices and treatments that focus on a holistic approach to health and well-being. Its objective is to balance the koshas – the five energetic “sheaths” or layers of the self. The koshas encompass the physical to the subtle bodies that surround the true self (Atman). They are: Annamaya (physical), Pranamaya (energy/breath), Manomaya (mind/emotions), Vijnanamaya (intellect/wisdom), and Anandamaya (bliss/joy). Balancing the koshas means maintaining a healthy body, mind, and spirit through diet, lifestyle, and natural treatments. Ayurveda medicine originated in India over 3,000 years ago.

During some of our Yoga Retreats, there is an Ayurvedic consultant on site to ensure that our practices and nutrition during the retreat are in harmony with nature, with the goal to restore the doshic balance between your Prakriti (your dosha based on current environmental factors and your present moment) and you Vikriti, your natural constitution. If you would like to benefit from a complementary consultation with one of our Ayurvedic consultants, get in touch. You can have access to those professionals either at one of our Retreats or on an individual basis.

Core Principles of Ayurveda

Holistic Approach: Ayurveda considers the interconnectedness of the mind, body, and spirit, aiming to restore balance and harmony.
Doshas: The system is based on the concept of three doshas or elemental life forces: Vata (air and space), Pitta (fire and water), and Kapha (water and earth).
Individualized Treatment: Ayurvedic practitioners aim to understand each person’s unique constitution and imbalances to create a personalized treatment plan.

Treatment Methods:

Diet and Lifestyle: Ayurveda emphasizes the importance of a balanced diet, regular exercise, and mindful living.
Herbal Remedies: Ayurveda utilizes a wide range of herbs and natural substances for their therapeutic properties.
Other Therapies: Massage, yoga, meditation, and cleansing practices (like panchakarma) are also used to restore balance.

Focus on Prevention:

Ayurveda places a strong emphasis on preventing illness through proactive measures rather than solely treating symptoms.
